It seemed a simple plan; I sail out of Goose Bayou and meet
up with Steve and Dan, after they launch at Pretty Bayou. And it would have
worked perfectly – except for the “small craft advisory” that we failed to
realize before things got out of hand. It was obvious to me when beating out
with a reefed mainsail and working jib and then no jib! But Dan and Steve had
worse luck when Steve was driven ashore by the high winds. Too late and too
shallow for Dan to effect a rescue, Dan came back to get me for an extra hand.
We found poor B. Frank on a very “rich” beach as it was flanked by
million-dollar estates. None-the-less, there was not much we could do but get
soggy Steve back to the house. Hot showers and cold beer was our only reward.
Photo – I think Steve meant to give the “other” finger : -)
